Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays – 99% Less Radiation?

In order to properly diagnose cavities and tooth decay, our team uses advanced technology in order to take a digital x-ray, rather than a dental x-ray. Digital x-rays eliminate the massive amounts of radiation usually associated with a dental x-ray, and at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist we understand that every patient deserves the absolute best treatment at the dentist. By providing a digital x-ray, we are able to ensure your child receives nothing but the best treatment available.

What are the benefits of digital X-Rays?

Unlike dental x-rays, the advanced technology of digital x-rays allows for the radiation exposure to be minimized, making digital x-rays drastically safer than dental x-rays. The digital x-rays take pictures of the affected area faster, therefor limiting the amount of radiation, the patient is exposed to. The digital x-ray also provides higher image quality, allowing our specialists at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist to find the cavities quickly and stop them before any other issues develop. Simple to use and incredibly safe, the digital x-ray is the perfect way for our specialists to diagnose cavities before they can do further damage.

How are x-rays taken on little children?

When younger children come in, they are placed in their parent’s lap for the digital x-ray. Older children are able to sit on the chair in the x-ray unit by themselves. Through the use of lead aprons, everyone in the x-ray room is also protected, although the digital x-ray has a minimal amount of radiation. Softer and smaller x-rays are used for younger children and a bite stick with the x-ray on it is placed in their mouths for the clearest images and easy cavity identification.

What if a child is too uncooperative to have x-rays taken?

If the doctors at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist are unable to take digital x-rays due to a child being uncooperative, certain dental exams can be done using only visual observation. If necessary, our specialists may take further digital x-rays while the child is sedated. The sedation is the use of nitrous oxide, otherwise called laughing gas, which can give your child a peace of mind during their visit.

Why can’t my child’s dentist simply look at the teeth to find cavities? Why does he need dental x-rays?

Although it is possible to do a visual inspection to find cavities, it will not identify any issues deeper in or in between the teeth. A digital x-ray will allow our specialists at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children’s Dental to find any inter-proximal cavities, or any other issues occurring inside or in between the teeth. The digital x-ray will also identify any tooth decay and exactly how far it has spread, and what measures need to be taken in order to resolve the issue. At Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist, we will be able to get the most accurate diagnosis possible and be able to offer your child the best treatment for them.
