Composite white fillings are natural, tooth-coloured fillings that many patients prefer for their virtually invisible appearance. However, amalgam fillings, often called silver fillings, are preferred for their strength rather than their pleasing visual appearance. Because the silver fillings are much stronger than composite white fillings, and can last for longer.

Composite white fillings are ideal for small fillings and restorations of the teeth, Composite white fillings are used on molars and other chewing surfaces, and our specialists at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children’s Dentist will be able to restore your child’s teeth to the perfect smile they deserve to have.

Does it hurt to get fillings?

The process of getting fillings is less complicated and as painless as every thanks to the specialists at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist. During the beginning of the procedure the child is made numb in order to ensure that the process remains painless. However, during the preparation for the procedure, the child may feel the cold water that must be spray on the tooth, some mild pressure, or some sensitivity after the procedure is finished (which will go away with some time). Despite this, our team at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist do their very best to have the treatment completed quickly and painlessly to give the child the best experience possible.

How do you take care of composite, tooth colored fillings?

After the composite white fillings have been placed on the teeth, it is relatively simple to take care of them. The patient must continue to maintain they oral habits by brushing their teeth twice a day, and flossing after every meal. By maintaining these good habits, your child will be able to keep their dental fillings strong and eliminate any decay from recurring.

STEP BY STEP:

The first step is having the child relaxed and comfortable before their procedure. This is often done through the use of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. Nitrous gas is an incredibly safe way of having your child have a calm and relaxing experience for their procedure. For more information on our use of nitrous gas at the office, please view our page on nitrous oxide. The second step involves getting the affected tooth, or teeth in some cases, numb. Using a local anaesthetic, our specialists will numb the tooth allowing your child to have a painless and comfortable experience with no worries. The third step is to remove the decay on the affected area. This process is relatively simple and quick to do. After the decay is removed, the tooth (or teeth) is exposed to acid etch and a resin bonding material in order to prepare the tooth for the composite filling. The last step is finishing the procedure by placing the filling on the teeth and hardening it by using a special blue light. Adjustments are made after the composite filling is hardened in order to allow for a comfortable bite. After this, the treatment is finished and the child may leave the office sporting a perfect smile!
