    Am I qualified for braces?

We have detailed the five main signs that your child may need braces below. If any of these signs apply, we would be happy to help you. Starting with booking a consultation with one of our orthodontists, we will help you begin your journey to a great smile and healthy teeth.

    Crowding

Crowding in the mouth results from not having enough space in the mouth for all the teeth, and is one of the most common reasons for orthodontic treatment. With not enough space in the mouth for teeth, the teeth crowding often results in crooked teeth, which may get worse with time. As the crowding progresses, it becomes increasingly difficult to floss or even brush the teeth. With severe crowding, it becomes almost impossible to clean certain areas of the mouth and can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, or bone loss around the teeth. However, orthodontic treatment beginning from a young age will help straighten and align the teeth to avoid such consequences. With proper treatment the risk for cavities, gum disease, and health issues is greatly reduced.

    Overbite

While the severity of an overbite can vary in each person, overbites occur when there is a vertical and horizontal overlap of the front teeth. An overbite is most noticeable when the front teeth stick out far over the bottom jaw. No matter the severity of the overbite, it may cause several health problems such as an increased risk of fracturing the front teeth during an injury, a risk of trauma to the front teeth, as well as complications during dental restorative work (such as fillings, crowns, and veneers). With the proper orthodontic treatment, these risks will be reduced and will leave your teeth looking beautiful and healthy.

    Crossbite

A crossbite refers to the upper teeth sitting inside the lower teeth, rather than on the outside. A crossbite is most often found in children and does not correct itself over time. If a crossbite is not treated properly it can lead to teeth being worn down or fractured, an asymmetrical jaw growth, and can leave you with an inability to restore the fractured and worn teeth.

    Underbite

An underbite is an abnormal condition where the lower teeth extend further outward than the upper teeth. Left untreated, an underbite may lead to an imbalanced facial appearance and difficulty biting and chewing.

    Openbite

An openbite results from when the front teeth do not touch the bottom teeth, and are not properly aligned when the jaw is closed. Such a condition may cause difficulty biting and speech problems.
