Baby Bottle Tooth Decay

When children below the age of 6 uses a baby bottle, tooth decay is a serious condition that may occur and target their mouth, teeth, and gums. The oral cavity can be affected by cavities which may lead to tooth decay or tooth loss. Our team at Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist has provided a short list of tips for you to prevent the risk of baby bottle tooth decay.

If your child uses a pacifier or baby bottle, avoid dipping the pacifier or bottle in any honey or sugar. If your child consumes too much sugar, their oral cavity is at risk for forming cavities and tooth loss. Avoiding giving your child too much sugar at once will reduce this risk and prevent any tooth loss.

Avoid sharing spoons or pacifiers with your child. Because the bacteria from your oral cavity may transfer, this may lead to a greater risk for your child to develop cavities or tooth decay.

It is common to give a child sugary drinks such as juice in order to soothe them, but it can potentially be very dangerous for them. The sugars in the drink may cause tooth breakdown in the long term. Avoiding giving your child anything except milk, breastmilk, or formula in their baby bottle will reduce the risk of your child developing cavities.

By their first birthday, or half a year after their first tooth erupts, your child should be brought in to Advanced Dental Bronx – Children’s Dentist for their first check-up. Ensuring your child is brought in for check-up will prevent any issues from forming on your child’s teeth. At Advanced Dental Bronx – Children's Dentist our specialists value your child’s oral health, and will do our best to give them their perfect smile.
